PIA
Physical Infrastructure Access

Twins Communications have extensive experience in working on Openreach Network and has trained engineers that have completed the Physical Infrastructure Access (PIA) accreditation modules for both underground and overhead installation and surveying.

PIA is an Openreach product that allows other communication service providers access to poles and duct. CSP can only gain access to these facilities if they are approved and Openreach have granted them access.
There is a strict process in place to monitor and aid CSP’s

Openreach Accredited

Twins Communications is proficient not only in Openreach network but many others, all our engineers are trained and hold vocational qualifications like NRSWA, fibre jointing and testing, EUSR Telecoms and are accredited for PIA.

If you would like to discuss how your company can benefit from PIA then please call us or contact us via our contact page or drop us an email info@twinscommunications.co.uk

Using Openreach PIA solution can help the speed of deployment for many communication service providers, by allowing them to access poles and ducts. By utilising existing infrastructure, this can help reduce the costs for CSP’s. Even though the existing infrastructure is in place doesn’t mean CSP’s can gain access straight away as CSP’s may have to place orders or plan projects to reserved space within the ducts or on poles.

Openreach has devised several accreditation modules for surveying in or on their network infrastructure. They require all engineers to hold the relevant accreditation’s for physical infrastructure access (PIA) to be able to work on the Openreach network.

These modules are different from the standard Openreach accreditation’s. They have been designed for communication service providers and the contractors who are working for them, and there are two separate surveying modules.

  • Overhead Surveying
  • Underground Surveying

There are processes and procedures to follow before commencing with a route survey which Twins communications are fully conversant with. And we have developed several reports to capture the correct data which is required as part of the Openreach documentation process.

We worked alongside with communication service providers to aid them with the delivery of their proposals. We are providing the proof of concept to network delivery using high-level designs to delivering information for detailed low-level systems. Our surveyor’s complete approved paperwork as every project is different; not one document fits all.

Surveying is an essential aspect of the plan, as the network designers require the information so it can be inputted into a platform. Once that has been completed, we commence a pre-deployment final check which is vital as things arise.

Twins Communications are fully experienced with installation procedures on the Openreach network having worked on the network before PIA deployment. Twins Communications has worked for Openreach via their Tier 1 providers and still do; we understand the quality requirements for installation. We have experience in fibre network delivery on both underground and overhead for various disciplines these include:

  • Sub Duct installation
  • Blockage Clearance
  • Blown Cable
  • Blown Fibre Tubing
  • Blown Fibre bundles
  • Passive Optical Networks (PON)
  • Ethernet Delivery
  • Overhead Fibre Span
  • Overhead/Underground Distribution Points
  • Fibre Jointing, spine and access network
  • Overhead Fibre Drop Cabling
  • Last mile installation
  • Customer installation
  • OTDR Testing
  • Quality Audit Checks

Twins Communications is proficient not only in Openreach network but many others, all our engineers are trained and hold vocational qualifications like NRSWA, fibre jointing and testing, EUSR Telecoms and are accredited for PIA.
